Compassion Sunday Set For April 26th
Helping Children In Jesus’ Name
I must confess that when it comes to helping children, most projects get my attention. Especially those projects done in the name of Jesus Christ.
Compassion International is an example of just one group whose mission is to make a difference in the lives of poor children around the globe, by seeking to release children from sickness and poverty in Jesus’ name. In addition, Compassion gives children a chance to learn about the gospel and receive special care to help them grow up into healthy adults.
My family currently sponsors a little girl who lives in Guatemala, Gabriella is her name, who will be nine next month. I first began to sponsor children in 1988 and our family has kept up with Compassion almost ever since.
Compassion Sunday
An annual event to help bring in sponsors for children in Compassion’s many programs is called Compassion Sunday. On that date — April 26th this year — countless churches across the U.S. will allow for a brief announcement of what Compassion does and how people can help.
Free materials are provided by Compassion if you want to be part of this outreach. Typically, several thousand of the 20,000 or so children needing sponsors get helped thanks to Compassion Sunday, a collective effort that makes a big difference in the lives of children.
Free Materials To Help Out
Among the materials sent are posters, videos, presentations, bulletin inserts and a host of other items that have made Compassion Sunday events effective in the past. No, you don’t have to hold the event on April 26th and your church can choose to spread the word in other ways. The whole idea is to inform people about Compassion and how their programs can make a difference in the lives of youngsters scattered around the globe.
Right now, Compassion helps more than one million children in twenty-five countries and is growing fast. But, the needs are great and the laborers are few — will you help make a difference in at least one child’s life this year by becoming a sponsor? Trust me, you’ll be glad that you did!

Thanks, Michael. Yes, I certainly hope that she grows in Christ too. We know that she is involved in a Christian program and asks us to pray for her family, which we do. I hope to be able to continue to sponsor her until she is of age too.
