Steven Curtis Chapman Headlines Orphan Event
Steven Curtis Chapman, the Grammy award winning Christian artist and adoption advocate, will be leading an event in Nashville on November 8, 2009, in a bid to raise awareness of the 140 million orphaned children worldwide.
Three From China
Chapman, who has six children, three of whom were adopted from China, will be leading an event dubbed “Orphan Sunday.” One of Chapman’s daughters from China, Maria, died last year in a tragic accident, but that isn’t stopping the singer/songwriter from advocating on behalf of orphaned children everywhere.
The November event will be simulcast on television, satellite and the Web, featuring a special acoustical performance from Chapman (pictured), along with Focus on the Family President Jim Daly, a former orphan himself, and adoptive father Dennis Rainey, president of FamilyLife.
“Our experience with the miracle of adoption and the chance to touch the lives of orphans has been infinitely rich and full. It’s a privilege that God invites us to, and there are so many other children around the world who need homes and help,” said Chapman, who adopted three daughters from China. “We’re doing this event on Nov. 8 to compel people to take action right now to be involved in caring for the world’s orphans. We can each do something, whether it is donating, adopting, fostering, mentoring, visiting orphans or supporting families who have taken in orphans.”
Cry of the Orphan
The Nashville event is part of an ongoing crusade by Cry of the Orphan, a campaign designed to promote awareness and motivate action to assist the more than 140 million orphans worldwide – a number equal to the combined populations of Australia and Japan. 140 million orphans worldwide is a staggering number to comprehend, and it’s sad that the world at large does so little to address their needs. What’s sadder still is that we have also done little to address the root cause, as violence, disease and poverty continue to grip this planet.

Hi Global, The world won’t address this problem or they simply won’t get it right. It takes individuals in tune with God to take action; most people simply do not care one way or another.
