“The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him” Nahum 1:7

Today is the 59th observance of the National Day of Prayer, an annual event where citizens of the United States are asked to call upon God, petitioning Him to intercede on behalf of our nation.

Admittedly, over the course of many years, I only participated once in an official event and have no plans at this moment to attend one this year. But, as always, I will ask for God’s guidance for those who lead us—we certainly need it, our country is involved in two wars and our economic outlook is desperate.

Yes, the moral collapse we’re seeing around us is all the more evident, all good reasons to petition God for His guidance. So, please pray.

This year, some in a position of authority have attempted to strike down the constitutionality of the National Day of Prayer while others have sought to diminish the day and related events by politicizing the same. Of course, we don’t have to agree with these decisions nor should they impact how we choose to mark the day.

No one can stop us from lifting up our hands to the Lord whether doing so in our “prayer closet” or in the company of followers of Jesus Christ. Pray!
