Exodus International Announces Ministry Merger

Submitted by on July 22, 2009 – 9:57 am3 Comments

As Christians, we often weigh sins on a scale thinking that some are worse than others. True, murder can have permanent ramifications that cannot be undone while lying, especially “white lies” are often dismissed or excused (hey, didn’t Rahab lie?)

Changing The Definition Of Sin

Exodus InternationalBut when it comes to sins separating ourselves from fellowship with God, every sin from “great” to “small” can do just that. These days even the word “sin” has been supplanted by “addiction” or even “lifestyle” in a bid for some to explain away or justify certain behavior.

Sexual sin continues to remain a problem with fornication and adultery getting the most attention, while homosexual behavior seems to be mishandled particularly by those who are of a Christian mind.

One organization that has been helping people gain freedom from homosexuality through the redemptive power of Jesus Christ is Exodus International. Founded in 1976, Exodus is perhaps the most well known Christian ministry helping men and women put same sex entanglements behind them.

Three Organizations Are Now One

Exodus International recently announced that it was merging with two other organizations, both of which are aimed towards helping congregants in mainline denominations.  One by One is a ministry for Reformed and Presbyterian communities while Transforming Ministries is a similar ministry to the United Methodist Church.

Together, the three ministries will work under the leadership of Exodus to help equip evangelical and mainline churches on a global scale “to break the polarizing debate over homosexuality through an approach that is both biblically orthodox and truly compassionate.”  Specifically, the organization will work with Exodus Church Association, an interdenominational network of more than 120 churches who seek to help people overcome same-sex attraction.

“The compassionate truth of the Gospel is still the hope of the world today,” said Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International and author of two books God’s Grace & the Homosexual Next Door and the newly released Leaving Homosexuality. “Together, we hope to advance a new era in the global Christian church that is defined by God’s truth as well as His heart for hurting individuals experiencing confusion and conflict about their sexuality.”

Additional Materials And Resources Available

For Christians struggling with same-sex attraction or for people who want to understand, perhaps minister to help believers overcome this sin or learn how to minister to homosexuals and lesbians, Exodus offers a number of resources on how to do that.  You can visit their website for more information.
