Back On Track, Well Kind Of
I returned home with my family yesterday after a brief trip northward that had us spending the weekend in New Jersey. On Saturday we saw my wife’s side of the family; on Sunday we saw my side of the family. Many of the people we visited with we hadn’t seen in three years, which was the last time we made our journey back to our former home state.
First Trip Northward In Three Years
We were certainly glad to see everyone and would have loved to have spent more time with our families. When we moved to North Carolina in 2004, we expected to make annual trips back to New Jersey to keep up with people. In 2005 and again in 2006 we returned, but we decided in 2007 to let our families visit us. In 2008, we had planned to make a visit, but gas prices exceeding four dollars a gallon put a crimp on our budget. Regrettably, we canceled that trip.
This year, we scrimped and saved and asked God’s favor as we planned our trip. Thankfully — and I cannot stress this point enough — God supplied our needs by providing several new clients to me even as others pulled back. In addition, on one of the days we were away from home we had to take our oldest son to “urgent care” as an ear infection suddenly flared up. That very same day a new advertiser made an important payment which more than covered the cost of the unexpected doctor’s office visit and medication. God is certainly faithful no matter where on earth we travel!
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. | Psalm 46:10
Creative Juices — All Dried Up!
Being away, even for a brief amount of time, means that you can feel a bit disoriented when you return. Speaking for myself, I can certainly say that getting away was needed — the day before we left I discovered that my creative juices had ceased flowing which meant that the break came at just the right time. I’m getting back on track today, but I think I’m still about one day away from reaching full productivity. My wife and children seem to having a similar experience adjusting too.
How about you? Have you taken a break from your routine recently? You may wonder if you have the time (and finances) to make a trip, but bring all of this to God too as He cares for you.
Even a brief time away can reignite your walk with the Lord, giving you a combined physical and spiritual respite that can do wonders in your relationship with Him as well as with others.
