God Is Always Faithful…

…Even When We Are Not.

For the Christian, the faithfulness of God should never be called into question. But, let’s face it: we do doubt.

As feeble mortals, we tend to look at our circumstances, weigh our life experiences and consider other reasons why we should not trust God.

worshipperWe know that this is wrong, but we often persist in wrong thinking.

Which is my point: we fail to reflect on the One who set the stars in place, put order to the ranks of the lowly ant and has kept this universe together despite man’s best effort to destroy it.

I have been going through my own stuff lately, fasting and praying to hear from God about a particular matter but then finding myself stumbling along, falling for the same old temptations that sometimes come my way.

Honestly, this past month has been marked by spiritual highs and fleshly lows, a stark contrast to where I want to be.

Maybe you’ve been struggling with something lately or perhaps you’ve decided to minimize your problems by telling yourself, “Everyone battles with sin…God will forgive me…so what’s the big deal?”

Well, the big deal is that you know that you feel rotten and your time with God just isn’t what it once was. Your prayers are listless, your Bible reading has fallen to the wayside, your enthusiasm for the things of God has waned.

In other words you’re cooling down from being the hot Christian you once were–lukewarm and growing colder by the minute. You’re also pretty miserable as you don’t quite fit in with fellow believers and you certainly don’t fit in with the world.

My Bible reading has me in the book of Matthew where I just finished studying the genealogy of Jesus Christ in the first chapter. I took my time reading it, comparing Matthew’s account with Luke 3.

In Matthew, Jesus’ line is traced through his stepfather, Joseph. In Luke, we see Mary’s heritage outlined. Though Jesus didn’t need Joseph’s line to lay claim to the throne, God kept His promise to David by promising:

The LORD has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn from it: I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body (Psalm 132:11).

Take a closer look at both genealogical accounts and you will realize that God’s promise to David involved not one son, but two: Solomon (Matthew 1) and Nathan (Luke 3). Yes, this very David who screwed up royally (pun intended) was still blessed by God to where his very offspring was the Savior of the world.

Of this man’s (David’s) seed hath God according to his promise, raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus” (Acts 13:23).

My point here is this one: David wasn’t faithful, but God remained faithful. David repented of his sin, God restored him and blessed him beyond anything he could imagine…or deserve!

I don’t know where you’re at in your relationship with Jesus Christ, but if you find yourself straying, then head back to the One who formed you in your mother’s womb and has kept you all these years.

Life is too short to stay in the muck or to have regrets—God has a plan for you, but you have to stay in that plan, not stray from it in order to enjoy those benefits.

Don’t let sin keep you from God. Repent, allow Him to continue the mighty work he started in you when you first believed.
